    Business Productivity Workflow Tools

A new addition to the family of CRM ‘accelerators’ is the ‘Business Productivity Workflow Tools’.  This is a very useful set of tools that extend the logical functions (actions) that you can perform inside a Workflow rule.

These new custom actions provide additional capabilities around string handling, mathematical functions and HTML hyperlink creation. Once this accelerator is installed workflow designers within Microsoft Dynamics CRM have more flexibility in terms of the processes they can manage through workflows.

This accelerator can be downloaded from the Codeplex site.

Thinking of extending Microsoft CRM - maybe as an ISV - this is a must read...

Fellow MVP Dave Yack has written a superb whitepaper to help gain an understanding of building on top of the Microsoft CRM platform.

In his paper he focuses on key features of the platform that will allow ISVs to quickly build, deploy and manage an application built using the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 platform.

He has divided this paper into the following key logical areas:
    - Architecture Essentials
    - Deployment Essentials
    - Operations Essentials

    The whitepaper is available here:

License Keys for Dynamics CRM 4.0

Ross Dembecki, Microsoft CRM Lead Product Manager (Australia) has posted a PDF on his Windows Live 'SkyDrive' to help address this question.

The first thing you need to know is which licensing program, or channel, are you acquiring your CRM license under?

To help you understand the "options" and then where you need to look, Microsoft has published a table with a column for each program that you may be getting CRM licenses under, which Ross has kindly made available as a PDF here......

CRM 3.0 Hotfix Rollup 3 withdrawn

Please be advised that you should not install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Update Rollup 3 (UR3) on any sites as it has been withdrawn due to a regression discovered in one of the included fixes.

The issue – After applying UR3 or one of the specific hotfixes listed below, when opening an existing Service Activity and clicking on the Customers field to drill down to the Customer information the following error is received:

    Record is Unavailable.

The record that you are requesting is currently unavailable.  Either the record was not found or you do not have sufficient security permissions to view it.

Microsoft’s Sustained Engineering team for Microsoft Dynamics CRM are working on a fix for this and will re-release UR3 as soon as possible, no further information on timescale available at this time.

Australian Time Zones (and others) UTC error - hotfix

If a Microsoft Dynamics CRM user sets the time zone to a certain time zone, any date or time that the user enters within the standard part of the year is not converted to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) when the date or the time is written to the database. Microsoft Dynamics CRM Demonstration Tools

Microsoft have released a set of tools to help with quickly building a tailored demonstration environment for CRM.

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Demonstration Tools provide a simple user interface that allows you to easily enter and edit data to populate or modify your instance of Microsoft Dynamics CRM. It also allows you to load and store your data in XML format, so that you can reuse your data in the future.

Please be aware that these tools are "for partner demonstrations only, and are not supported through Microsoft Technical Support".

    Have fun.

Report will not upload after editing in Visual Studio.

The SQL statements that CRM generates are quite complex – not straight ‘select’ statements.  If you download a report generated by the report wizard to enhance in VS you have to update the Dataset ‘connection string’ – CRM holds ‘Adventure_Works_Cycle_MSCRM’ as the DB.
It is easy enough to change the DSOrganisation and repoint the data source to your actual DB.  However, if you select “DSMAIN” in the selection you get an alert stating that the SQL statements cannot execute and VS deletes all of the Fields associated with the dataset, because it can’t intellisense them from the query (as it is too complex).
The work around is that you then have to hack the SQL to get it to work (or you abandon the report and start again BUT don’t select DSMAIN from the dataset so as to avoid VS trying to execute the SQL query).

Don't select a pre-existing view in the Report Wizard

In the Report Wizard if you select a pre-existing view for the filter criteria it corrupts the RDL and will never run.  There is apparently a hotfix in the works for this, but in the meantime construct your own selection criteria.

Can't select or change column headings

If you find you are unable to change Column Header properties in a CRM view, or in customisation, unable to actually select the column to change properties - it is an IE feature that is causing your problem.

Uninstall the "Internet Security Configuration" from Add Remove Program >> Add Remove Windows Component - afterwards perform an IISRESET.

    Internet Facing Deployment (IFD) Tool

A tool to assist with the configuration of an Internat facing Deployment has been released.
