May 17 Contacts changing ownership when Account owner is changedOne of the challenges that I find people often complain about is "If I change the Owner of an Account. then all the Contacts associated with that Account change to the new new Account Owner....and we don't want that to happen".
This is a default rule that is shipped with the product.....but it can be changed!
The rule governing this relates to the 'Cascading' effect when a change occurs to the Parent record; and this is defined in the Entity 'Relationship'.
If you want to change this cascading effect so that Owners of Contacts do not get chaged when you change the Account Owner then follow these steps:
1. Go into the Customisation area; an Open the Account entity.
2. Click on the 'Relationships' tab
3. Locate the entry - "Account" - "Contact" - "Parental" (and open it)
4. Under the section 'Relationship Behaviour' change the picklist entry for 'Type of Behaviour' from "Parental" to "Configurable Cascading".
5. Change the 'Assign' picklist value from "Cascade All" to "Cascade None".
6. 'Save and Close' your changes
7. Publish the Entity and you are done!
Unfortunately it is not possible to change the cascading rules for 'Sub Accounts' - so if you change Ownership of an Account, all the Sub-Accounts will change owner as well. |
